An explosion at Gorilla Polishing Plant in La Habra has left injured employees with burns across 90 percent of their bodies. The explosion occurred the morning of Tuesday May 29th and more than 50 firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene.
The firefighters were able to control the fire soon after arriving on the scene at the Chemical Plant in La Habra, California. The number of causalities had reached eleven when paramedics arrived at the plant; the casualties included three workers that were left critical after the explosion.
Scot Miller, the local Fire Department Inspector believes that the explosion occurred due to a build-up of dust and lint in a duct system.
Gorilla Polishing Corp. was cited for violations in 2011 by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health that was settled in 2013 for $1,975. The list of citations against Gorilla Polishing Corp. included failing to provide information to employees about hazardous substances and failing to establish an injury and illness prevention programme.
