Distillery explosion injures three in US

An explosion at a distillery in the US state of Colorado injured three people on February 27. The blast happened at Elkins Distilling Company in Estes Park, northern Colorado and injured three employees.

Estes Valley Fire Protection District said it was called to the scene at around 09:00 local time. A fire was extinguished before the scene was turned over to the fire marshal and the building official for investigation, the fire department said.

Two of the injured employees were transported to the North Colorado Medical Center Western States Burn Center with burn injuries. Officials have not released an update on the seriousness of the injuries.

According to local media, the explosion occurred in a distilling area and caused the roof of the building to partially collapse, making it difficult for firefighters to gain entry to the building. Images taken at the scene show large pieces of debris scattered around the building.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
