A worker has died this Sunday because of the serious injuries suffered in a fire and subsequent explosion occurred last night at the Hispanic Boards factory located in the municipality of Lugo. Another has been injured.
Both operators were evacuated at first to the University Hospital Lucus Augusti by the 061 health emergency service, but later they were transferred urgently to the University Hospital Complex of A Coruña because of the severity of their injuries, given that in one case the burns they affected 90% of the body and the other worker had 70% affected , according to sources close to the family of the victims.
The Integrated Center of Attention to Emergencies of Galicia (CIAE) indicated that the accident occurred a few minutes before midnight, inside the board factory, located in the place of Santa Comba, in Lugo, at the height of the kilometer 1 of the autonomous road LU-546. In the incident, two chip silos burned and one of them exploded – the other was emptied by the emergency services – which caused the two workers to be seriously injured as a result of burns.
After receiving first aid in the same place of the accident, both wounded were evacuated urgently to the University Hospital Lucus Augusti in ambulances from 061, although at dawn they were transferred to CHUAC Coruña. The Firemen of Lugo and Sarria, the National and Local Police, as well as the group of Volunteers of Civil Protection were also mobilized.
Already in the place of the fire, the services of emergencies had to be used to fund to control the situation and to stop the fire, that was controlled about 07:10 hours of this Sunday. During the afternoon of yesterday there had already been a fire in one of the affected silos, for which the Prevention, Fire Extinguishment and Salvage Services of Lugo were mobilized.
