A “devastating” fire heavily damaged a Garrard County furniture factory Friday morning, but some of the business was saved.
The fire started around 6:30 a.m. at Rocky Top Log Furniture & Railing on Lexington Road north of Lancaster in the Bryantsville community. The business made and sold rustic furniture for homes, hotels and restaurants through its two stores and its website. One store was at the Bryantsville location and another is in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
“This morning a devastating fire occurred at our Rocky Top manufacturing plant in Bryantsville, Kentucky,” the company wrote later Friday on its Facebook page. “Thankfully everyone made it out safely and no one was injured. A special thank you to the Garrard, Boyle, and Jessamine County Fire Departments for their competence and expertise that saved the remainder of our facility. We appreciate everyone’s prayers.”
A video shared on Facebook by Robert Matheny, the store’s owner, showed fire department crews battling the fire that billowed smoke. Firefighters from five agencies Garrard, Boyd and Jessamine counties fought the fire. There were no injuries.
Matheny told WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, that there was extensive damage.
The fire started in the flat shop area of the factory and spread to the shipping pickup area, according to WKYT.
