27 Jul Two firemen hospitalised with ‘shockwave’ injuries following explosion during Cork factory fire
On July 13th 2018 at Lissarda in Dunisky County Cork Ireland, a wood dust explosion in a sawmill from timber processing products.
The GP Wood group employs approximately 150 staff with a further 250 indirect employees in their forestry operations. Its core business is timber manufacturing focused on the construction, fencing, garden leisure and packaging markets.
They suffered ‘shockwave’ injuries and are currently being monitored at Cork University Hospital for a range of possible post-blast complications.
The fire broke out at Palfab sawmill, a factory part of the GP Wood Company, outside Lissarda at around 4.30am.
Cork City Fire Brigade has two units assisting the fire while Cork County Fire has units from Macroom, Dunmanway, Ballincollig and Bandon in attendance.
Medics and paramedics are also on the scene.
The fire is now under control.
